Settled in for December....

Thursday, December 9, 2010

We knew we had a shorter day on Wednesday, under 200 miles from Ocala to Moore Haven, so we didn't rush ourselves. We got about 20 miles down the road and stopped at a truck stop to get some coffee, soda and snacks for the day.

As we were leaving the truck stop, I asked Stu if he had picked up our SPOT. We use it to let family know we are okay as we travel (and hopefully never have to use the HELP or 911 functions). We normally set it outside to locate our position as we set up. Since we were setting up after dark in Ocala, we waited till morning.

Yup, you guessed it...it was still sitting on the post back at our campsite. My biggest concern was some kid picking it up and pressing buttons willy-nilly, calling out rescue services. GULP! So we did a u-turn and headed back to Ocala to hopefully find it sitting where Stu left it....and it was. Phew!

Back on the road, the weather was nice and definitely the warmest we had felt in weeks. Not a lot of traffic which was a pleasure. One thing we've noticed is the lack of RVers on the road as compared to the last two times we've traveled to FL in Nov/Dec. Plus all the RV parks we pass are almost empty. Last year seemed to be much better...hoping it's just folks delaying until after the holidays.

We stopped at Cracker Barrel for a late lunch and continued southerly. Oh, I made Stu feel better...I left my purse on the back of my chair. LOL! Our route was US 27 and other than a couple of towns with too many traffic lights, we had no delays. It was almost dark when we finally arrived at M RV Resort. Our site is plenty deep for our rig, leaving room to unload the bikes. The Freightliner has to be parked beside us, but that's okay. I'll get some photos of the park when the sun comes back tomorrow...today is rainy and cool.

We'll be here until the end of the month, then we move back north a bit to Lakeland at the Lazy Dazy Retreat. We'll be there for Jan and Feb. March is still up in the air. We are thinking about finding a spot closer to Vero Beach for the first two weeks, then going to the Escapee Park in Bushnell (Sumter Oaks) until it's warm enough to head back to TN and our property.

The weather is supposed to be sunny and in the 70's starting tomorrow and over the weekend. We'll get the bikes out and get in some riding!!! We can't wait....Sadie is excited, too. She wrote about her trip here in Sadie Speaks. LOL!

Till next time - keep on rollin',

  1. Sadie is really getting big! I need to send you a pic of the seatbelt harness Sage wears while riding in the truck. Keeps her safe and sound in the backseat as we roll down the road.

  3. Don't you just hate it when the same thing happens that happens to our hubbies? Ron usually laughs hard if I do something stupid that I have laughed at him for. Guess that is what makes us a great couple. Glad you got your thingy & purse back (can't remember what you called it).

    Have fun getting settled.

  4. Hi Donna, glad you have arrived safely. Funny, we just left Salt Springs Campground in the Ocala National Forest this morning. For the next 10 days we are at the COE Ortona South Campground, outside of La Belle. Enjoy the warming temps.

  6. Hi Donna, thanks for joining up and following our blog. I don't get much time on the internet so it sometimes takes me awhile to get to everyone's sites.

Hope you enjoy Florida and that the temperatures get better for you and Stu. I hope temps don't go the way they did last year. It was too cold, even when we were there in March it was still pretty chilly.

Look forward to following along on your journy.

  8. I can so relate to the "leaving things behind" glad to read we aren't the only ones! You gotta laugh at it all and take it in stride.
Sadie is growing like a weed and just adorable.
You will enjoy the riding in the area where you are, we hope to get out on our Wing this weekend as well.
Here in Lake County area most parks are full, Bee's is overflowing right now, I ride by it every day on my way to/from work.
It has been unusually cold EARLY this winter here in Florida. We were camping last weekend and it was cold! This weekend is supposed to be gorgeous and back to cold next week, but we had a horrendously HOT summer. ENJOY
