Lifestyles of the Fulltimer

Thursday, October 20, 2011

Such is the life of a RV'r. I brag about not having to cut grass and paint. (2 things I really don't care for) but I never had a house have blowout that takes out 3 electric lines, a propane hose and a satellite coax. Seems the RV gods did not want me to see Sons of Anarchy last night. I beat them back with a few extension cords.

Yesterday, while traveling I 40 around Knoxville, the rig ran over a rather substantial piece of steel and took out the leading tire on the curb side of the rig. The damage was immediate. KZ poorly designed the 110 volt power cables, kitchen propane hose and a TV coax right over the tire. When the tire shredded it took out all of it. Even the Pressure Pro tire system could not react fast enough to prevent the damage.

I pulled to the shoulder immediately to assess the damage. 1st make sure the propane was off. Next get our safety vests on and set up the traffic cones. The Impact wrench, jack and spare were next. I went to work changing the spare and wire-tying the remains of the dangling wires and hoses out of the way. An hour and a half later we were back on the road headed to Jamestown, TN.

Now off to the hardware store for some materials for the repair....

Still rolling,
Stu and Donna

NOTE: This is NOT a photo of our tire, but this is close to what ours looks like. When the weather is better, Stu will get our tire out and take a photo.

It's COLD here in Tennessee!!!

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

I had fun with my friends in PA but then mommy made the walls move and we hit the road again. This time was different cause mommy wasn't in the truck...she rode her motorcycle....IN FRONT OF US! I got to watch her and whimper cause she wasn't with me. [snicker]

But we are in TN now and somebody forgot to turn on the heat. Mommy got my fleece coat out and it barely fits...but it keeps me warmer.

Here is what it looked like a year ago.

Here is what it looks like now!

Yup, that's my hiney sticking out...[snicker]

Doggy Rules

Monday, October 17, 2011

Here is a list of just some of the things I must remember to be a good Dog:

 1. I will not eat the cat's food before he eats it or after he throws it up.
 2. I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish, crabs, etc., just because I like the way they smell.
 3. The Litter Box is not a cookie jar.
 4. The sofa is not a 'face towel'.
 5. The garbage collector is not stealing our stuff.
 6. I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's underwear when he's on the toilet.
 7. Sticking my nose into someone's crotch is an unacceptable way of saying 'hello'.
 8. I don't need to suddenly stand straight up when I'm under the coffee table.
 9. I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before entering the house - not after.
10. I will not come in from outside, and immediately drag my butt across the carpet.
11. I will not sit in the middle of the living room, and lick my crotch.
12. The cat is not a 'squeaky toy', so when I play with him and he makes that noise, it's usually not a good thing.

Sniffing and lickingly yours,
Sadie

Going visiting...

Saturday, October 15, 2011

Mommy and daddy said I'm going to get to visit my three friends in the country. Remember when I visited them before?

But mommy says no puter while there so I can't write to you. So I'm gonna copy a doggy funny for you and have it post while we're gone. It's funny, REALLY funny....[snicker]

Sniffing and lickingly yours,
Sadie

Another week in the life of....

Thursday, October 13, 2011

Not much new this week. We finished up the last of our medical appointments, visited with family and friends, ate too much food, fussed about the bad weather and, OH YEAH, brought Stu's trike home!!! Of course it's rained every day since...

Sadie was a hit at the Harley dealer, getting lots of attention. When Stu took the bike out for a test ride, she stared out the window waiting for him to return.

Tomorrow we load up and head to PA for the weekend, I'll be following behind the rig...in the rain. The Red Helmet Ride is Saturday and we hope the weather clears. Right now it seems to have stalled right over us...ugh! Sadie will be going on the ride with us, a first for her. We'll take photos but won't have good Internet while in PA so probably won't try to blog.

Monday we hit the road to TN...and again it looks like I might be riding in the rain. Good thing I have good gear for the weather. We'll take our time, maybe three travel days, so I don't get beat up and exhausted, at least not too much. LOL!

Oh, here is a photo of Stu's youngest daughter, Melissa, when we picked up her bike. (I finally got all the pics off my phone....LOL!)

Till next time - keep on rollin',
Donna and Stu

PS> For those interested, here are links to past Red Helmet rides:

No more stiff neck!

Mommy and daddy said I was getting a stiff neck so they bought me this...I like it!

I have the BESTEST parents ever!!

Sadie

Soon to be back in Tennessee...

Sunday, October 9, 2011

Just a short note, we plan to be back in Tennessee around the 19th of October and stay till around Thanksgiving time. Not sure if we will get any work done on the property this time around. We have two full weeks already booked in timeshares over in the Smokies. We also have a few doctor appointments to take care of and friends to visit. Then factor in the weather...LOL!

Regardless, we will post new photos of the property and any updates on what is going on there.

Still rolling,
Stu and Donna

Weather perfection continues...

Friday came and went, we moved the rig an hour north without incident. Because Stu has loaded the garage in the trailer with tools that he is going to store in TN (stuff that he left behind when he went full-timing), I rode my bike behind. Perfect weather and it felt really good to get in some wind time.

Saturday found another perfect day...a bit cool in the morning but quickly warming up. Stu and I rode into D.C. with his youngest daughter, Melissa, and her boyfriend, Andy. Andy bought a new Harley Sportster a few months back and she was picking up her new Harley Softail Deluxe. She fell in love with the new green color and got a good deal on a new 2011. Since she doesn't have a ton of riding experience (maybe 3000 miles on a older Suzuki), she asked me if I would ride it home for her.

Needless to say, there was no hesitation on my part...my favorite bike of all time still is the 2005 Deluxe that I toured with. I'd have one now but it's 9" longer than my sporty and won't fit in our toy hauler unless I give up my washer/dryer (not going to happen). The bars were slightly different and she had changed to a reach seat, but all in all it was a pretty similar ride. The reach seat crowded me a bit and my thighs had to get used to the position on the floorboards as compared to my mid-controls. All in all, it was a great 70 mile ride back from D.C. to the eastern shore of MD. Definitely brought back MANY happy memories.

Her older sister, Heather, had decided to buy Melissa's Suzuki but since she hadn't taken the MSF course yet, they asked me if I would ride it from Melissa's to Heather's where we are parked right now (in the RV). Sure...why not. Well let me tell you, this was like going from a 2011 Camaro to a 1962 VW Beetle. LOL! It needs a tune-up (died on me three times when I downshifted), I suspect the front tire was low (handled like a tank on corners), and I had a hard time getting comfortable with the forward controls.

But it's delivered and I got in 100 or so miles of wind time and a gorgeous day! Plus we've added another rider to the family...life is good!

Today I woke with the start of a cold...UGH! We did a few chores around the rig and just generally relaxed. The grandgirls are off at a local pumpkin farm so it's quiet here. Next week will be hectic. I have chiro appointments Mon-Thu, Stu has PT on Mon & Wed, we have plans in Annapolis most of the day on Tue and still need to fit in a few lunches/dinners with friends before HOPEFULLY moving on Friday.

Note I said HOPEFULLY. Stu called Annapolis Harley on Saturday and the parts are all in, finally. The rebuild shouldn't take more than a day so we should be able to pick the bike up sometime this week. Phew!

Friday we will move over to our friend's yard in PA, Saturday is the Red Helmet Ride, Sunday is a quiet day unless Stu still hasn't gotten our replacement steps installed (front steps are broken from wear and tear, back steps got crunched when we dragged the hind end of the rig in a ditch a few years back). Then on Monday we will head out to TN...once again I'll be riding behind the rig. Such a hardship....LOL!

Be sure to check out Sadie's latest post: New Playmates

New playmates.....

I was outside with sissy and Clubber, but I heard mommy making the walls move and knew my playtime was coming to an end. Sigh....

Mommy didn't ride in the truck with us like usual and daddy STILL made me ride in the back. What's up with that? Oh, mommy was on her motorcycle behind us and I couldn't see or hear her. So I did what any smart dog would do...I took a nap.

Now we are back at daddy's daughter's house. I don't have any dogs to play with...just one REALLY old one next door that barks at me. I don't have a fenced in yard to play in. BUT....I do have lots of playmates...

Livie is missing, she's at her nana's house. Billy, Liam and Jesse were watching The Chipmunks movie and I was being good....REALLY good cause Jesse was eating crackers. Right in front of me and everyone!

Sniffing and lickingly yours,
Sadie

The sun is shining....

Thursday, October 6, 2011

Finally, a couple of sunny days with nice temperatures. We took advantage of that on Tuesday and drove over to get my motorcycle...finally!! Oh, and for those not following us on Facebook, Stu got an A+ on his colonoscopy. Good for another 10 years.

The rest of the week has been spent doing chores, continuing knee PT for Stu and chiropractor appointments for me. Tonight is dinner with our Thursday friends, tomorrow we move the rig over to Stu's oldest daughter's yard in DE for a week. Saturday we will head to D.C. with Stu's youngest daughter who is picking up her first Harley - a 2011 Softail Deluxe in just the colors she wanted. We're so excited for her!

We will continue chores while in DE but also plan to visit Mike's Famous HD so Stu can get his shirt from Delaware. That leaves him only a few more states left to get...then it will be time to find someone who can turn all 50 shirts into a two-sided (25 each side) quilt.

Sadie and Fiona have REALLY enjoyed the sun....check it out!

Thanks to everyone who identified the last flower photo as a Passion Flower. Here's another photo from the past....

Sunbathing Beauties.....

It was SO nice to have some sun come out and shine for me and sissy. We took advantage of it and then mommy just HAD to take some pictures. Big surprise....[snicker]

I'm in love! My friend Skittlez posted a picture of her new harness. I told her mine was faded and I wanted one with skulls next time.

Look what mommy found...it's SOOOOOO ME!!!

Who turned down the thermostat?

Sunday, October 2, 2011

I posted a bit ago that fall was here…well, fall has moved in with a vengeance! Last night it went down to 46 and at 2pm it’s only 52 degrees. Now if it were sunny, it wouldn’t be so bad but it’s still overcast and drizzly. Ugh! At least the rest of the week the highs are forecast for the mid to upper 60’s.

I didn’t pick up my bike yet, mostly due to weather but also due to “blahs” and pain from my first chiropractor appointment. Two nights of good Aleve-assisted sleep and several hours of using my Bed Buddy and I feel better. Will be interesting to see how I do with four appointments next week. Really hoping to loosen up all the muscle spasm issues in my back.

So a quiet Sunday afternoon…Stu has the Ravens and Nascar on tap… Oh, and his colonoscopy prep. Yup, this is his year (mine was last year). We’ve stocked up on lemon sugar-free JELL-O, chicken & veggie broth, diet 7-UP and the original Gatorade. I’m trying to not eat really tempting stuff in front of him. Honest!

Sadie had two sleepovers at her sister’s house and last night finally came home for a bath and her monthly heartworm/flea-tick meds. Today she is on the lead outside…no muddy play since we can’t bath her for a couple of days. She’s not happy about that…LOL!

We are scheduled to move from our stepdaughter’s yard in Stevensville, MD to Stu’s oldest daughter’s yard in Greenwood, DE on Friday. We’ll be there for a week, enjoying the grand-girls and hopefully getting Stu’s Delaware Harley shirt. Hoping we have both bikes back and good weather to get in some riding before moving on to PA for a long weekend.

Stu is carrying some tools he had stored here in MD back to TN. They take up a bit of room so I’ll be riding my motorcycle behind him on the next three moves. REALLY hoping for decent weather…I can deal with the cold if it’s not raining…or the rain if it’s not cold. Together….not a happy camper. LOL!

I got to sleep over!!!

I've had the BEST two days....mommy and daddy must have gotten tired of me whining [snicker] about wanting to sleep over with sissy. So they let me!!! Two nights in a row!!! We had so much fun, we played, we ate, we slept in a ball, we played, we ate, we slept in a ball....oh yeah, it was wonderful!

Then last night daddy made me come home...worse yet, mommy gave me a bath. Jeesh...don't they understand that I'm a DOG and I'm SUPPOSED to get muddy? Then daddy put my bug stuff on (he said something about fleece and tickles....). So now I can't play with my sissy for two days cause I can't have another bath.

The good thing is that it's COLD OUT THERE so I really don't mind being all curled up inside with mommy and daddy...where it's warm!

Sniffing and lickingly yours,
Sadie
