Child's Play

When was the last time you....

  • chewed a big wad of bubble gum and blew a huge bubble
  • made a snow angel or built a sand castle
  • blew soap bubbles, the bigger the better (wetter)
  • tried on goofy hats and posed for photos
  • played with Play-Doh and ignored the feel/smell
  • got on the floor and raced cars
  • climbed the jungle gym, slid down the slide or swung in the swings
  • played Chutes and Ladders or maybe Clue
  • colored outside the lines in your coloring boo
  • wore a truly outrageous outfit and didn't care what anyone said
  • jumped rope or played hopscotch
  • climbed a tree and read a book
  • rolled in a haystack or jumped into a pile of leaves
  • mooned somebody
  • danced like you did at 16 and didn't think about how you looked
  • dyed your hair some wild color (temporary is good...LOL!) and flaunted it
  • pretended to be some character you love...just for a day or even an hour
  • wore wax lips or teeth...and not at Halloween
  • played in the sprinkler
  • wished on a star
  • shot squirt guns
  • wear silly pj's, have a pillow fight and tell bedtime stories
  • had a marshmallow fight
  • jumped on a pogo stick or twirled a hula hoop
  • tried yo-yo tricks or counted bounces with a paddle ball

You get the general idea.... We have spent most of our adult lives being responsible and "acting like adults". We have earned our second childhood. Take time to enjoy the simple things, play games, Be Silly, LAUGH OUT LOUD!

"I want to be an outrageous old woman who never gets called an old lady. I want to get leaner and meaner, sharp edged and earth colored till I fade away from pure joy."

I have to admit to not being real good about this, but I am working on it. Doing things that I would never have done 10 years ago. What do you do to keep your inner child nurtured?

Till next time - keep on rollin',
Donna and Stu

PS. Nellie, this blog doesn't apply to you...I know you do all this and more, ALL the time. LOL!

  1. All you need is a house full of adolescent Grandkids and you will be doing all those things, Donna tells her co-workers when they ask how Grandpa is enjoying the Grand kids, that that is easy they all the same age..Personally I enjoy a good rousing game of Jedi light Saber as much as the kids. try it. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna....

  2. Where in the world do you get all your time to post these awesome information? You make me tired just reading the post.
Keep up the great work. You educate me each time you post. Thanks

  3. Great reminder to keep things fun and not so serious all the time! Thanks. (I do play in the snow though).

  4. Well, my husband says I have never lost my "inner child"...the day he married me I was still watching and enjoying cartoons! "Scooby Doo, Where are you!". LOL! I don't watch as many cartoons but I still go barefoot, I still dance and sing to the songs on the radio, and I never take myself too seriously! Oh yeah...did I mention the finger painting?

  5. We try to do all of the above as often as possible. It seems the older we get the less we even care what others think. We are here to have the time of our lives with each and every moment.

It was a lot easier when we had our grandson with us, but we now find other ways to bring out those inner children. We laugh, we play and we just choose everyday to love each moment as if it could be our last!

  6. Had to laugh reading your post today as last night three of us ladies bought identical PJs and had a pajama party, eating pizza and layed on inflated bed in the rig, watching movies and eating popcorn together.

At 68 I don't have to be a serious, responsible adult anymore. I wear purple and red and act out as much as possible!!!

  7. It's a little tougher when you have aches and pains, but there are things you can do. I get silly whenver I can, dancing and prancing, sometimes even while wearing clothes! We play with words -- our English language is full of fun.We watch silly movies (Couple of nights ago we watch Big Daddy.). And for real fun, we read blogs like this one!

  9. Funny! I think a lot of people think I never grew up in the first place.

  10. I loved it all! Especially the PS. :) Our daughter put bubble jars on the table at her wedding reception and had a horseshoes tournament. I still have some flippy flyers from her cereal boxes but now I only fly them when there's someone else around to chase them. :)

  11. Fortunately, (maybe UNfortunately for Dennis) I have done many of those things fairly recently....I refuse to act my age most of the time...This sometimes gets me into trouble, but my theory is that life is too short to take ANYTHING too seriously!

  12. Have you ever tried wearing a tail to the grocery or other "normal" place when it wasn't Halloween?

I made a batch of fluffy Fox tails because I thought they'ed be great fun and I could sell them at the craft shows. They never "caught on" and I didn't sell any, but I had a great time wearing them around town.

Being silly is wonderful. I haven't done anything silly for a long time. Thanks for reminding me.

  13. What a great post..and I agree about Nellie. She is an inspiration (even without her Ts and Ys). I made a snow angel just a couple of years ago - when we had enough snow to do so!! I was a buttoned down banker for many years and it took me a while to loosen up, but life is too short to be taken too seriously.

  14. My Little One is 10, so we do many of these things on a regular basis! Could care less what anyone thinks about me! Hope that never changes... Life is too short to be serious all the time!

    Great post...

  16. I love this blog. None of us do enough of these things, but I have been trying harder since Christmas to just let go sometimes. It works, it really makes you feel better. Thanks for sharing this great blog.
