Home again, Home again!

Saturday, April 13, 2019

Just a short update with a few pics. We had an uneventful trip home even with Stu temporarily losing the GPS for the RV routing. He used his phone and we took back roads all the way from Folkston to I-16 (to Macon, GA). It was a beautiful drive with no issues with the rig size.

It was a first for the #2doods, they got to sleep outside their crates and were quite good. Stu noticed they were less hyper in the morning when he got up so we will try it again when we get home, leaving their crate doors open.

Cooper on the hammock:

Settled in for the night:

We spent the night in the Flying J parking lot, enjoying a Denny's breakfast, and I snapped a couple of cute pics.

Our coffee mugs had sayings:

A last thought of Disney:
Micky & Minnie at Flying J

What everyone needs? huh? Metal martini glass?
Stainless Steel Martini Glass? For sale at Flying J

We made it home in good time, got the rig parked, pulled Scooby out so the car could be parked, turned on the water (forgetting the outside faucets were turned on - something to add to next fall's list), turned on the breakers, and fired up the refrigerator. We brought in enough to make it till morning and crashed by 10pm (very early for us).

We were surprised at how green everything way and how much was already blooming/growing (including weeds and lawn). So on Friday Stu mowed the lawns and did some trimming while I moved the food (refrigerated & otherwise), did most of the laundry from the RV (still need to strip the bed but there is no rush), moved all the bathroom and most of the office items. There is still a lot to do but most of it can now be done as time allows. The power is on and the A/C is running so no rush.

A few flowers:

The #2doods settled back in, racing around the back yard to be sure nothing had changed, and standing guard at the front door.

As almost always at the front door, Cooper to the right and Murphy on the left:

Waiting for Dad to finish his peanut butter so they can lick the spoon:

Almost there:

Pretty please, Dad?

It will be at least a week before I can get to the blogging about our Disney visit, so please bear with me!

Ciao for now!

We've arrived!

Thursday, December 27, 2018

After weeks of maintenance/repairs of the Freightliner and RV plus all the prepping of inside, we finally left the house on Christmas Day. We spent Christmas Eve in the RV while it was parked in the driveway, letting the #2doods get used to new surroundings as well as allowing me to wash and wax all the floors in the house. Always nice to come home to a clean home (yes, we spent a major part of the day cleaning...lol).

The #2doods did pretty well adapting, we set up one crate in the living room area and extra bed pad beside it.

They made themselves at home quick easily...and the evening passed quickly.

Next morning we got up early and did all the last minute things, including pulling in all the slides so Stu could air up all the tires. Then the two crates were stored in the garage beside the motorcycle. Then it was time to load the #2doods. Initially we planned on Cooper riding in the Freightliner with Stu and Murphy riding in the Jeep with me. First snafu, Cooper wouldn't get into the Freightliner without a LOT of help in addition to the ramp. Phew, both in their respective spots, we were ready to go. We had hoped to be out by 9am and managed at around 10am (which was actually 11am Eastern Time). Just in time to see some snow flakes!

We took I-40 over to I-75 and the traffic was as light as expected. Our first rest stop and the dogs had to be rearranged with both of them in the back of the Jeep. Cooper slept and traveled just fine, but getting out was worst then getting him in. Oh my! Not an issue for them though, they were doing wonderfully on the leash, behaving much better than we anticipated.

Due to the late hour, we planned to stop at the Flying J south of Atlanta and decide if we would boondock there or try to make it south of Macon and stay in a campground that night. We stopped and I got fuel but two issues. Stu was having some electrical problems with low voltage in the Freightliner. He was concerned we might have to replace the alternator before continuing. Second problem, there was no parking available at the Flying J so we headed over to the TA. Nope, full there, too. Fortunately there are two more truck stops there - Love's & Pilot. We found a perfect spot right next to a curb with a good grass area to walk the dogs behind us. With the rig backed all the way in, there was room for the car in front of it. Then came our next surprise. We had to use the side back door to get the dogs out. Murphy jumped right out! Cooper took a little persuasion.

The next day went well. The Freightliner batteries were recharged (we ran the generator all night to help charge them) and although it was showing only 10 volts when we headed out, it soon was up to 12 volts where it belonged. He thinks there might be a loose cable and we made it to the RV park around 1pm without further incident. Phew!

The park has nice wide spots on grass with a small concrete patio. We got the RV lined up and settled in quickly. The #2doods have lots of walking space with a very quiet road behind us and a huge field beside us. Initially we planned to board Murphy (who adapts quickly to most anything and anyone) so I would only have Cooper to deal with while Stu flew to Maryland for the funeral of a former coworker. But dealing with walking them both at the same time was much easier than anticipated. Oh, and another HUGE surprise. After using the ramp to get the dogs in and out at the truck stop and the first couple of times, as soon as we used the back steps into the garage both dogs quickly adapted to using the steps. No ramp! Then they did the same with the front door. SOOOOO much easier. Yay for smart pups!

Their crates are now set up in the garage, side by side. Their wet weather towels are stored on top and their toy box is available, too. We have A/C back there when it gets warm but for now we are more apt to be running heat. If the weather is bad, we can take them in and out back there and use the towels to dry and de-mud them. (Ignore the flattened boxes and paper piled on top...LOL)

This morning we crated the #2doods and headed out for the 45 minute drive to the Jacksonville airport. You do go through some small towns but the drive was easy, most of it on US Rt1. Back home and I got to open several boxes that already arrived from Amazon.

We originally planned to carry our older B&W laser printer in the RV but it was just too big since we took out the old wooden file cabinet, my computer card and rearranged the dining table into it's original position. After a little research I found and All-in-One HP inkjet printer for $20 on Amazon. Yes, you read that right. $20!! And the print cartridges are $15. Much smaller footprint and we will just pull the cartridges when we park the RV for summer. Since we no longer have a WiFi router in the RV, we will use it with a USB connection. It's been tested and works fine as did the scan function. Happy camper here! I'm sure this is an older model but for the price, it's hard to go wrong.

So the #2doods and I are settled in for some alone time until Stu flies back on Sunday. He arrives so late, he booked a hotel room and I will pick him up on Monday morning. The weather forecast for next week is COOL but we have plenty to do. I still have a lot of computer/office stuff to get settled. Stu has a lot of repair/maintenance chores on his list. We also need to take the pups over to meet their eventual boarding spot where the will meet the lady who runs the facility and her Boxer. We also plan to have lunch with the sister of a fellow firefighter friend. Then there are several interesting sounding spots to try for breakfast &/or lunch. We will take the bike out and explore when the weather permits.

Ahhhh, life is good!

PS. Need a last minute gift? Book One in the Klondike Mystery series, Not a Whisper, is on sale for a limited time. Only $1.99 until 12/31. Grab your copy or share as a gift!

Busy, busy!

Busy Beaver clip art If you think we've been busy lately, we're about to get busier! While Stu is currently busy continuing to work on the French drain for the pasture behind the Backend of Nowhere Garage, I'm struggling to get my three former Kindle World books ready to republish.

At the same time, I/we are prepping for a week-long visit from Olivia & Jesse, our two Delaware grand-girls. Their parents are going to Maine to help out a friend and the girls asked if they could come see us. So, they are!

The biggest challenge is food - with our current way of eating (low carb), we need to go shopping for them. Milk, yogurt, cereal, bread, buns, strawberries, blueberries, apples, bananas and yes, snacks, are all on the list. All no-no's for us.

We plan to make a day trip to Dollywood while they are here as well as see a movie or two. Other than that, they will be kind of left to their own devices. Good thing Stu is great at entertaining them (LOL).

We are also working on future plans. Stu got a phone call from his older brother, Scott, who has been widowed for several years now. He's getting married! We're so happy for him. The wedding is the Saturday after Thanksgiving and we will spend an additional couple of days in the area before heading back home.

Before that trip, we need to get the RV ready to head south, hopefully heading to our winter campground for this year (southern Georgia) by the middle of November. It will add a day to our drive north for the wedding as well coming back, but it eliminates rushing to get the rig moved immediately after driving back from the wedding.

We have to be in Florida on December 8th to pick up our youngest grand-girl, Waverly, for her Disney trip. Because her parents are taking her to Disney for her first trip in October, we will be taking her on a four day Disney Cruise.
The #2Doods will be trying out a new boarding/doggy day care place in Georgia - we will squeeze in a meet and greet day before we commit.
Okay, time to get back to my C'Mon Inn mystery rewrites. Hoping to get them published by Monday. Woot!!

"What's Going On" - Thank you, Marvin Gaye

Friday, May 11, 2018

If you think we've been busy lately, you're right. Me with writing and Stu with a new-to-him motorcycle trailer. He is prepping for his group ride with the Run for the Wall group, leaving from Cookeville on the 22nd, headed to DC and then spending several weeks in Maryland with family. His old partner, who now lives in California, is riding the whole route.

Oh, the trailer. Last year we sold BRAT2, believing we had no need for it since we didn't foresee any long motorcycle trips in our future. Fast forward to now and even though I won't be doing any long trips, Stu still has the itch.

Here is BRAT (Big Red's Attack Trailer):

Here is BRAT2 (ditto #2):

Here is BCAT (Black Cherry's Attack Trailer), as is-where is (when he picked it up):

BCAT now has new tires, new rims, new coupler, repainted frame, new locks, new lights, all new wiring, and spray paint job (for now). He also installed a new trailer hitch on the Tri-Glide (Black Cherry).

Here is Stu working on the final touches:

So I will be a motorcycle widow till the middle of June. At least I have the #2Doods to keep me company (and bark away any intruders - if the sound of our security alarm doesn't do it). LOL!

If you haven't visited my author blog in a while, maybe it's time to check it out. I'm writing a lot of flash fiction (ultra short stories) as well as sharing a few personal tidbits from time to time.

Snowbirds? Not this year...

Saturday, October 7, 2017

We've thought about it. We've talked about it. We thought some more. We talked some more. We made the decision...no Florida for us this year.

Many things come into play but one biggie is having two wild and wooly puppies that need a ton of exercise. We still have a lot of training to do and staying here will let us continue to work on both of them, both in classes and at home.

Yes, it will mean less motorcycle riding but when I lived in the area for three winters, I rode some every month. It also means we can visit Dollywood again. We bought season passes and haven't had time to use them yet!

Another bonus will be decorating (a little) for Christmas and attending some of the local functions. So much to do here locally.

It also lets us get an early start on yard items next spring. We need to do a lot of pruning as well as weed 'n feed the lawn. The dogs have destroyed the lily beds, so some of those bulbs will get moved to the front and side yard. They will be replaced with some type of shrub that they won't play in. LOL!

What happens to our RV lot? Easy, we get it added to the rental pool at Bee's RV Resort. If anyone might be interested in renting it for the season, let us know and we will get back to you with the details.

We still have two weeks of cruising in late Jan-early Feb and we plan to go. We will compare prices and either drive or fly to Tampa. The pups will get boarded (together) and will be fine. We will miss them, but they will have playmates and won't give us a second thought. LOL!

This doesn't mean the end of our RVing, we're just slowing down a bit and trying to savor each and every day as it comes....

Ciao for now!

Busy Weekend

Monday, June 26, 2017

We are so blessed to have our lifestyle, one where we can change plans pretty easily. And that is exactly what we did this past weekend. We had intended to leave Maryland on Sunday, arriving at our home in Tennessee on Tuesday. A last minute invitation changed that and we will now arrive at home on Thursday. Not a big change, but happy we could easily do it.

We headed north to the Hudson Valley of NY early on Friday morning, hoping to make it by 4ish for our granddaughter's high school graduation. Of course it was Friday and of course there was traffic, a lot of it. So that meant accidents and backups...after a couple of stops our five hour drive ended at a little over eight hours. But the graduation party had just started, so we were fine. LOL

Here are a few photos...oh, all taken with my little iPhone because guess who forgot their camera!

As soon as we got on I-95, there was an accident requiring HazMat - turned out a semi-truck had lost a saddle tank (fuel).

When we got the the New Jersey turnpike - repeat.

Scenery other than traffic....

On to New York state and a 54 minute backup! We opted to get off at the service plaza and wait it out.

The party is just getting started - five girls, their families and friends all celebrating their graduation from high school. The crowd grew as the evening wore on...everyone had a blast!

The graduate - Abbi. She is my late husband's youngest daughter's older daughter...phew!

I also got to see my youngest daughter and three grandkids...it had been too long and they are growing up so fast!

We left on Saturday, a day earlier than planned because I wasn't feeling all that great. A bunch of the kids all went hiking...it's such a beautiful area!

We did have some pretty sunsets on the drive home...

Sunday we laid back and just relaxed...in fact I took two long naps before finally crawling out of bed at 3pm. So today we are doing all the necessary de-oozing (putting away all the stuff that has oozed out over two months) as well as checking tire pressure, getting the garage ready to load the bike, cleaning the roof of tree debris, etc.

So tomorrow we are off and if all goes well, we should arrive home in Tennessee sometime on Thursday. WOOT!

Ciao for now!
