More Borrego Springs Sculptures

Friday, April 2, 2010

On Wednesday we headed out to see the rest of the sculptures displayed on Galleta Meadows Estates but north of town this time. We were surprised to see the first ones...ranchers farming a metal vineyard. Really interesting! Then we continued on with the animals - camels and prehistoric.

We wandered through town, passing the local Country Club and seeing some of the more upscale homes. The amount of landscaping was staggering...some gorgeous trees, beautiful flowers, as yet unseen varieties of cacti and lawns. Yup, lawns. I can't imagine how much water it takes to maintain them in this climate!

The wind blew all day, there was dust everywhere but the bike looked like we had muddy scratches everywhere!

We stopped in town and wandered all the stores in The Mall. I found the Smart Wool hiking socks that I wanted and a tablecloth that I liked but thought was too pricey. The tablecloth is for our outside table. I've seen them on others and really like the looks as compared to a bare metal table. We decided to eat at Carmelita's, enjoying some good Mexican food and beer. We toasted my good friend Mary Ann who passed away on Sunday. Her spirit and love of life will always stay with me.

The wind was really picking up so we headed back to the RV in preparation for the front moving through, possibly bringing afternoon/evening rains. We took a late afternoon walk and I snapped a few more photos of the area where we are parked, including some more wildflowers.

The wind came and went but we never did see any rain. We got up to a cool and cloudy morning but in a couple of hours the sun was shining brightly. We opted to sit outside and soak up the sun....the temperature stayed in the low 70's. Gorgeous!

The wind is back this evening but either due to our positioning or thanks to the new cross stabilizer we had installed, but we don't feel the wind, we just hear it. I suspect it's a combination of both things....LOL!

Tomorrow we are thinking about riding back to Julian, CA but taking the reverse route. Time will tell... We are really loving this area and since it's still pretty cool up in the Joshua Tree area, I suspect we'll just sit here in the Anza-Borrego area a few more days.

Till next time - keep on rollin',
Donna & Stu

PS. All the photos are in our SmugMug album.
