Skyline Drive Motorcycle Ride

Tuesday, October 7, 2008

We headed out of MD late Sunday afternoon....we weren't in a big rush because we were only traveling to Front Royal, VA and that was only a couple of hours ago. Factor in the day of the week we weren't overly concerned about traffic either.

So we said our goodbyes and headed out....we'll be back in April for Melissa & Mike's wedding (Stu's youngest daughter). We had made reservations at the Skyline Ranch Resort in Front Royal with the intention of seeing Luray Caverns while in the area. We got in just before dark and the site was VERY long allowing us to leave the truck attached and still have more than ample room to load/unload the bike. Perfect! Well, almost....we were under the trees so the satellite dish couldn't lock in. Stu spent almost an hour trying to find THE spot between the trees with the portable dish, finally giving up for the night.

On Monday morning we headed into Front Royal for breakfast before riding to Skyline Drive. We found a great spot (food quality & price) with one not so good factor (we're in VA - smoking in restaurants still allowed). I just dealt with my hoarseness and enjoyed a great meal.

The day was warming up but still on the cooler side...we headed over to Skyline Drive with full intentions of getting off part way and going over to Luray Caverns. Well, the day and the drive was so great we opted to do ALL of Skyline Drive and save the caverns for another trip.

I took WAY too many photos, you can see them all here, but here are a few choice ones.

What an absolutely perfect day....the sun, the views, the temperature. When we finally got back to civilization we stopped at a Cracker Barrel for coffee and pie. We were both good and got the no sugar added apple pie with no sugar added vanilla ice cream. (Yes, we know there are still a TON of calories but it was worth it....LOL!).

On the way home we made a Wally World stop for groceries and a few little other items we needed. It all fit on the bike...barely, but it fit (good thing we were still wearing most of our gear since the temps were now dropping).

We arrived home, tired, cool and exhilarated....ready to leave in the morning for PA.

Till next time - keep on rollin',
Donna & Stu

  1. I've traveled the Skyline Dr. several times, and it never ceases to amaze me with the beauty of the area. Thanks for the memories!
