Oh the places that we've seen...

Williams, AZ is a great spot to be based...we've managed to ride our motorcycles to the Grand Canyon where we walked our 10,000 steps (and boy, did we feel it). Then after a stop at the Flagstaff Harley-Davidson dealer, we rode to Sedona, AZ - land of the red rocks and on through Jerome - the wickedest town in the west, over to Prescott and back to the RV. Amazing rides and sights all three days.

I had stopped in the same Harley shop when I was touring in 2005...thought it would be fun to compare the photos!

The Grand Canyon is just that....GRAND. No photo can ever prepare you for the beauty and size. (Just a side note....photos are now being taken with FOUR different cameras so bear with us. Stu uses the Canon Powershot S5 IS, I use either the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5K with 10x zoom or my new "toss it in a pocket" Nikon Coolpix S3000 with 4x zoom and we both use our iPhones when desperate....LOL!)

Sedona is a world unto itself...nature surrounds it in red rock splendor, the spiritualists flock to the vortex sites and the town folk add an interesting flavor. Unique shops, one of a kind sculptures and more places to eat than you can shake a stick at (ouch, can't believe I actually wrote that...LOL!).

Jerome ranks right up there on the quirky scale with Bisbee and Seligman...it's a don't miss town...but DON'T TAKE YOUR RV. Honest....89A is not for big rigs...but it sure is great for motorcycles!

By the way, if you are looking for a beer and a great snack while in Jerome, we highly recommend Quince Grill & Cantina. Never-ending salsa & chips that are to die for...I asked if they sold the salsa, it was that good. Chips were barely salted, thin and freshly made.

We also took one day to enjoy the town of Williams. We parked the bike and walked the downtown area, stopping in all the shops - quaint, tacky, one of a kind and historic. We had lunch at Cruiser's Cafe and tasted our first local beer from the Grand Canyon Brewing Company. Stu tried the Sunset Amber Ale (and bought a six-pack) and I tried the Oatmeal Stout. Both were very good!

After doing all the walking (where we picked up more old license plates), we had to stop at Pine Country Restaurant for some pie. I had strawberry and cream cheese while Stu stayed traditional with apple pie ala mode. YUM!

Well, it's a good thing that we got those three days of great weather because yesterday the rain, wind, hail and then snow hit us. Lows in the 20's, highs in the 40's - although now it's dropped back to 32 at noon. In fact, the snow is coming down even harder today with at least half an inch already accumulated and it doesn't look like it plans to stop for a bit. At least it's no where near as bad as May of 2008 when I was here and we got about 9 inches overnight!

We had planned to leave here Saturday morning but we still haven't done the IMAX at the Grand Canyon. Saturday looks to be good enough to ride again, so we'll stay one extra day and do that. We'll move out on Sunday...of course all plans are set in Jell-o....LOL!

Right now we plan to move up to Kanab, UT where we will take a couple of days to explore both Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon. There is a lot more to see in the area, we might hit one or two other spots but not sure. We plan to boondock at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary just north of Kanab.

From there we will head to the Arches National Park and Moab area for a few more days of sightseeing before we move on to Colorado. We have to be in the Denver/Colorado Springs area by May 6th. We have tickets to see Sugarland in concert on May 7th and my oldest daughter is graduating from college on May 16th.

After that we boogie on to Seattle in preparation for our cruise to Alaska. Yup, we're going to be busy...never know how much Internet or phone access we will have, so please be patient!

Here are the SmugMug photo albums for all our trips:

PS. For those who are gluttons for punishment, here are my old blogs from 2008 when I visited the Grand Canyon and Sedona on the Escapees HOP.

  2. If you stop in Fruita, Colorado, you might want to ride the bikes up the Colorado National Monument road. Check my blog for a few pictures.

  3. Love the photos and the blog. Thanks, once again, for the vicarious travels.

I recently learned that my great grandfather William Lockridge was on the survey team for the Bright Angel Trail and the railroad at the Grand Canyon. I knew we had family ties to the area, but that was very interesting to learn.

    Happy Journeys!

  5. Loved seeing all the pics. . .we were there last summer, and you are right, the highway from Jerome to Prescott is not designed for big rigs.

Sedona is just gorgeous, and of course the Grand Canyon. . .no words. . .love your outfit though!
