The Owl and The Snake

Thursday, September 5, 2013

The other day I posted a photo of our owl - we now have three hanging high in the pavilion.

But if that doesn't scare off the birds, Stu made two rubber hose snakes to lay on top of our nice white roof.

Tomorrow is our final clean up around the RV, do laundry, get rid of food and pack day. Of course I'm still hard at work on book two in my mystery series. Still hoping to get it up on Amazon before we go.

Have you read the first book, "Not a Whisper" yet? Here is the latest 5 star review:

"This is the first book in quite a while that was hard for me to put down. I stayed up entirely too late and just about drained the battery on my phone reading Donna B. McNicol's tale of murder, arson, kidnapping and, oh yes, a bit of romance. The ending was quite a surprise! Buy it. Read it. Wait impatiently for the next in the Klondike series."

RV Pavilion is done!

Wednesday, September 4, 2013

The call came just after 6 am, the crew was on the way to our house to build our pavilion. We got up, packed up the rig, unhooked and moved into our neighbor's driveway for the day (they were out of town but even if they weren't, we know they would have told us to do the same). A couple more phone calls, they got lost trying to find our property in the middle of nowhere (or at the back end of nowhere, as Stu says).

By 8:00 they were here, unloaded and hard at work. Stu took photos throughout the day while I tried deal with minimal or nonexistent Internet connection (our Verizon aircard connected via the neighbor's booster). I quickly gave up and worked on things that didn't need access.

By 3:30 they were done, we were cleaning up and quickly moved the rig into position where we could bring up the dish and at least have TV for the night.

Today we backed the rig in completely, got the Internet back on (thanks to our DSL line) and Stu ran into Cookeville to get the parts needed to put a dish up on the pavilion. By 7 pm, the dish was installed, aligned, and we were completely back in business!

When we leave on our motorcycle trip we will pull Freddie (the Freightliner) in beside the RV (with the slides in). Things will be much more protected from the weather and nature (birds). It looks really nice next to our shed and it's VERY well built! I suspect Stu would use this company to build his pole barn when we get to that point.

Here are some photos, click to enlarge, you can see the rest in our SmugMug album.

Protection?

Monday, September 2, 2013

A couple weeks ago I posted photos of Sadie, Keta and Snausage playing. With Sadie gone, little Snausage continues to visit us. He's quite comfortable - climbing up on our front steps, laying in the yard or getting a little more warmth on top of the wood pile.

He's still quite skittish and won't let us get too close to him. We both feel if we were here for another month, we might be able to get to him. We're talking to our neighbors and hope they can bring him into the fold of their pack. He will make someone a great little pup.

In another post, someone asked about keeping birds from flying in and out of our pavilion (and pooping on our rig). This is what he is using - we'll have two of them, one at each end of the pavilion.

We had a voicemail on Stu's phone from Friday - our cells don't work out here in the boonies. LOL! Of course it was from the building company, hopefully they were calling to let us know they would be here tomorrow and NOT to let us know that there is another delay. Guess we'll find out in the morning!
