A month? It can't be true...

Curvy Road Ahead Sign clip artWell it has been a month, almost, since we last posted. A lot of things contributed to not posting - poor internet, my not feeling well, travel, motorcycle rides, family time, holidays, doctor appointments...you get the idea. LOL! So this is our catch up thread - lots of photos but even more in the links at the end of the post.

When we last left you, we were at the KOA outside Watertown, NY. We had a nice drive to our next destination in the Finger Lakes region of New York. We parked at Sned-Acres Family Campground and spent several delightful days investigating the local area. We had a site with a great view, saw a spectacular moon, visited several microbreweries and just generally enjoyed ourselves. We had great Directv reception from out site but internet was poor. They had free wifi but it tended to be a bit flaky. Yes, we would stay again but we would try one of the lower sites so we didn't have to do quite so much to level.

The Finger Lakes have long been known for their wineries but now they also are known for many distilleries and microbreweries. We loved it and stopped at several microbrews. One of our favorites was just down the road and we attended a festival on Saturday to benefit the local volunteer fire department. We left with several t-shirts, a growler full of delicious Scottish Ale and two Adirondack chairs with a turkey tail table. (see photo) Thank you Boatyard Beer Garden!

We also found a great ice cream spot not too far from our campground, Cayuga Lakes Creamery. Delicious!

Lots more photos in the link at the end of this post.

Next was another short move to Milton, PA where we stayed in an out of the way campground. We went through Watkins Glen which was packed with tourists. I did catch a shot of the Watkins Glen State Park Entrance.

Our final stop was at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ at Shangri-La in Milton, PA. We had a great campsite and even managed to get a weak signal for Directv. Internet and phone were all but non-existent. Close to town and nice riding area, we enjoyed out stay, taking several evening walks around the campground.

Set on a river, those sites mostly occupied by seasonals, they also offer cabins in several sizes. Activities galore for the kids and we took to heart the warning in the printed materials to go inside your rig if you were sitting outside around 12:30. The hay wagon picked up all the kids as well as several staff members and rode around spraying everyone with water. The kids loved it!

The road in was a little hairy - one lane and full of pot holes, but we made it. Worth the drive for the setting, we would stay again. (more photos in link at end of the post)

Our next move was back to Artillery Ridge in Gettysburg, PA - back where we started. The site was had last visit was taken so we ended up in the very back in a fairly new section that was perfect for us. Long pull-through with good satellite access. Finally, a good Directv signal and decent internet.

We enjoyed local riding but our best day was spent at the Eastern Museum of Auto Racing in York Springs, PA. Free but donations accepted, this was a surprise find. Very well done, supported by donations and the gift shop as well as the labors of a dedicated group of volunteers. Stu really enjoyed himself.

Once again, we found an great ice cream stop just down the road from our campground. Yeah!

Then it was time to move on to family in Delaware. The grandkids had already started school so we didn't see too much of them. That didn't mean there was nothing to do. Oh no, plenty to do! We were about 30 minutes out from Greenwood and our home driveway when the serpentine belt on the Freightliner went out. Repair number one on Stu's To Do list! He also went to Seaford Harley-Davidson and ordered a paint matched front fender to replace his dented one. Then there was grocery shopping, laundry and catch-up stuff. We also had great satellite for TV but abysmal internet access. One again, we were forced to use our Verizon phones as hotspot - thankful we upped our data limit for the summer.

We took one nice riding day and went out for the day. We started at Dogfish Brewery in Milton, DE and then just rode, enjoying the nice weather.

On Labor Day, we moved over to another family driveway where we will stay until lat in October (when we will head to Florida for the winter). We did get to see our youngest grand baby at Cracker Barrel. She is a ham!

Then we began the rounds of our annual doctor appointments. No cataract surgery for either of us yet, we are both just below the guidelines from Medicare. Maybe next year. We both had some meds added by our primary care doctor and I have the "joy" of a colonoscopy in early October to check out some issues I've been having. Yeah, joy....LOL!

I will leave you with some photos from our current cruise - we left Sunday (early) for our cruise out of Baltimore. We are cruising with good friends from the Annapolis area who are in the process of moving to Tennessee, maybe 2-3 hrs from our property. Whee!!!

The cruise is going well and our cabin was all decorated for my birthday. Sweet! All four of us had dinner in the steakhouse last night, perfect birthday dinner. Then I came back and tried to acknowledge almost 450 birthday messages on Facebook. No, I didn't make it...but I did try.

Wednesday, July 20, 2016

It's been a whirlwind of driving, eating, visiting and more driving since our departure from Delaware. The next two weeks aren't going to change much but I wanted to drop a short blog with a few photos from our driving and our campgrounds.

Our first stop was in Gettysburg at Artillery Ridge Campground. We had been there before and it was as nice as ever. Not inexpensive due to 1) the popular area, 2) it being the high season and 3) the amount of amenities offered. We were only there for one night and had a nice long site. The highlight was meeting Stu's old partner, Bill Metcalf, and his wife Dottie, for breakfast the next day. Oh, and I forgot to take ANY photos of the campground...weird, I know. LOL!

Bill & Dottie Metcalf, Stu & Donna
From there we moved on to Fantasy Island Campground in Sunbury, PA. A decent park but not the best for big rigs. But we did enjoy the drive....PA is a pretty state, especially this time of year. We used our Passport America membership and only paid $20 for a 50 amp FHU site.

[all photos for the day here]
Then it was on to northern PA where we settled into the KOA in Marshburg - up on the hill from Bradford. If you have read my Klondike Mystery books - this is where they are set. My late husband and I lived there for three years and loved the area. It was time to meet friends - again, photo miss. Sorry! But I did take a lot of the campground and Bradford.

KOA's are never our first choice due to price, but this one is very nice AND convenient. No TV due to trees and almost no phone signal (so no WiFi).

[all photos for the stay here]
After three nights there, it was time to move northeast. Our next stop was at Babcock Hollow Campground (Jellystone) in Bath, NY.  A nice short day and pretty scenery being in the southern tier of NY state. Fairly convenient to the interstate but in the country, we liked the park and the management. No WiFi but they are working on it. We had TV and some phone/Internet. Oh, missed the site photo so this will have to do.

[all photos for the day here]
One night and we were on the road again - for a long day. We left at 10 am and weren't settled at the KOA in Newburgh, NY until almost 7 pm. Again, pricey but we had a great site. If we return, we will try to book the same spot. We managed (barely) to get TV but we had phone and Internet. Great campground, lots of amenities (that we never use). We were there to visit family and yes, I missed taking photos again. Guess I'm getting senile. Sigh...

Stu went out for a nice two hour motorcycle ride while I recouped from not feeling real well. Photos in the album (linked below). Also some nice pics of two antique cars we saw on our drive from Bath to Newburgh.

[all photos for the stay here]
A short visit and we were on the move north to Twin Ells Campground in West Chazy, NY. Another great rate, thanks to our Passport America membership. Up to five nights at $15 a night plus electric. Wonderful staff, nice location, quiet, amenities (that we won't use) and a great site. We have phone. We have Internet via our Sprint hotspot. We have free campground WiFi. We have a huge pull-through with 50amp FHU. A little brook runs behind our site for extra privacy. Ah...life is good. So good that we have booked the week after we leave the Escapade!

We have already run errands in Plattsburgh - found a Sam's Club as well as the Super Wal-Mart. Had a nice lunch at Duke's Diner and mailed some things. Today Stu went for a six hour motorcycle ride while I caught up with laundry and paperwork. Tomorrow he will probably ride again while I tackle Almost a Touch, book three in the Klondike mystery series.

[all photos for the stay here]
Saturday we head two hours to Essex Junction, VT for the Escapade. While there, we will be meeting up with a lot of RVing friends as well as new RVing friends that returned to the states from Ecuador where we initially met. We also hope to meet up with Bill & Dottie again.

We will be there until the 31st when we will move back here to Twin Ells. We have motorcycle friends coming in from Canada for a few days then. I'm hoping to get enough writing done to be able to enjoy a few rides! Blogging will happen as there is time....patience, please! LOL!

Ciao for now!

Rollin', rollin', rollin'

Monday, July 11, 2016

We are on the move!! Because our WiFi access is unknown, I'm scheduling this in advance. We have reservations in several places/states between now and the Escapade in Essex Junction, VT (July 23rd-31st). We will post when we can but feel free to check out my Facebook page, too.

Here is our itinerary (by nights):
  • 7/10           Gettysburg, PA
  • 7/11           Sunbury, PA
  • 7/12-7/14  Bradford, PA (where my Klondike Mystery books are set)
  • 7/15           Bath, NY
  • 7/16-7/17  Newburgh, NY
  • 7/18-7/22  West Chazy, NY
  • 7/23-7/30  Essex Junction, VT (Escapade)
No idea what we will be doing the month of August - too early to plan, but I hope to be writing. LOL!

We will check in as we can but if you don't hear from us...don't worry! No news should be good news.

Ciao for now!

Thousand Trails RV Park - Lebanon PA

Saturday, September 29, 2012

We arrived last afternoon Thursday, a bit on the exhausted side. Driving much over 200-250 miles a day is guaranteed to wipe us out, toss in rain and cold and you get a double whammy. It surprised us how warm it was while we set up so once done, showers were the order of the day. We came here for two reasons, first it wasn't out of our way and we had not used out Thousand Trails membership and second, to see our friends, Nick & Terry Russell and Greg & Jan White.

The drive from Indiana through Ohio and Pennsylvania was pretty, we were both surprised how many trees where changing. I snapped a few photos while following behind Stu and at one rest area (when it was actually sunny for a bit).

The only ones I snapped so far here at TT was coming in and grabbing a shot of all the Canadian Geese. LOL!

Friday was supposed to rain all day so all three couples pretty much hunkered down and did inside things. That meant Nick and I wrote, Terry worked on fabric/yarn or other creative things while Jan, Stu and Greg all watched TV and 'resticated'. LOL!

Yesterday was Greg and Jan's 45th wedding anniversary so we let them pick the restaurant. Fuddrucker's it was, followed by ice cream at Mazzoli Ice Cream Shop. As always, we had a great time, telling tales and laughing.

We've decided to stay an extra day. Stu's making a Sam's Club run and I'm working on my mystery novel. Life is good!

Moving on down the road....

[little leaf - fall is here]
Just a quick note to let everyone know that we got our repairs at Mor-Ryde done by 2pm on Monday. Managed to catch our mail forwarding before it got sent to Elkhart and sent it on its way to Delaware. That meant, no reason to stay in Elkhart...so, we hit the road.

We didn't go far the first night, spent the night Wallydocking. We made it about 180 miles on Tuesday and stayed at a Flying J. We stopped early, eating a late lunch/early dinner, the weather was nasty and there was plenty of room at the back of the lot.

Indiana - old vs new
We got on the road by 10:30 today, I know, not an early start for most of you but it works for us. LOL! It rained all night and most of the day which made the 250 miles even more tiring for us. We stopped to Wallydock in Clarion, PA.

Tomorrow we'll check into Thousand Trails in Hershey area for two nights. Our good friends Nick & Terry Russell and Greg & Jan White are there for a while. It wasn't out of our way and we've never used our TT membership. Seemed like the thing to do!

Sadie found the sun
Saturday morning we'll move onward to Delaware where we'll be family-docking in Stu's oldest daughter's yard, at least for a couple of weeks. We have a lot going on while we're there. Stu's youngest daughter is getting married - a Halloween themed wedding.

Plus we have a ton of medical, dental, hearing and vision appointments to get done. That means blogging will be slow...but I'll try to post weekly. Honest!

Zippo & Zion

Monday, August 20, 2012

I know, I've already done Zion so it will be the bonus link (to photos). Zippo is new, even thought we covered PA before.

Zippo Lighters have been around for a long time and even though they aren't used much in the US anymore, they are overseas and they have a HUGE collector base. They are located in Bradford, PA and the tour is free. But even if there were a small charge, it would be worth it to see the collections and displays.

The first time I visited Zippo, my late husband and I were living just outside Bradford. In fact our first ever motorcycle poker run started out at Zippo. But back to the tour, this was around 2001 and the main display was WWII and Korea based as well as a movie section. Amazing display.

When Stu and I visited in 2008, the movie section had been expanded and the war display updated. It was still amazing and worth the time to visit.

BONUS: Zion National Park

Pennsylvania and Panama

Monday, July 30, 2012

Before Stu, my late husband and I spent several years living in the Allegheny National Forest in north central Pennsylvania. It's a beautiful part of the country. We've done a little exploring there, here are some photo links to enjoy.
I'm hoping we can make another run through the area on our way from the Gypsy Journal Rally in Celina, OH this September back to Maryland.

BONUS: Panama Cruise
