When we moved into our house here in Tennessee, we agreed we would break that habit and eat on our dining room table. Well, that lasted maybe two months and we find ourselves back eating on TV tray tables in the living room. The table gets used when Stu eats his breakfast there (I'm usually still sleeping) and when we have company.
Growing up in the 50s, we ate traditionally, all at once seated at the dining room table. I don't remember eating anywhere else unless we were at my grandmother's house where we often ate outside on a picnic table in the shade.
Now no post would be complete without mentioning the #2Doods. Needless to say, they eat on schedule. Mornings around 8-8:30 and dinner around 6-6:30. Of course Cooper is asking by 5pm for his dinner. Then there are the unexpected treats, like licking the peanut butter spoon when dad is done.
Ciao for now!
We eat at the dining table. In our previous motorhome we ate at the dining table--in this motorhome, I'm not sure where we will eat as like the generator, the table is missing in action--there's a leaf for the table in the closet but no table!! ;)
ReplyDeleteTV trays to the rescue? LOL!
DeleteI remember the old metal tv tray that were popular in the 50s-60s. Probably worth a small fortune now. I love the wooden ones, also great when the grandkids visit!
ReplyDeleteOh, my... TV trays! Growing up my next door neighbors had them, but not one EVER crossed into our house! We NEVER ate anywhere but the kitchen table, or dining room on holidays when more family came over to eat. Later, when I was in high school, for some reason we ate in the dining room on Sundays.
ReplyDeleteWhen my kids were growing up we tried to eat at the table as a family. Now, two are at home, adults, and we eat at the table on Thanksgiving and Christmas! Sad to say... I eat at the table (I hate eating on my lap - messy) and use the computer, while they eat in the living room (still same room as I am) with TV or their phones.
Oh, growing up we ate outside on the deck at the picnic table on some summer evenings, if it wasn't too hot. My mother would cook chicken thighs in the morning and we'd have them later cold.
Of course, some nights I don't cook anything, so we are all on our own! My son knows not to ask, "What's for dinner?" but, "Is anything planned for dinner?" There's a big difference!
I like that - is anything planned for dinner! Funny how things seem to vary through the years. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteGrowing up, we always ate at the table till there were too many of us. Lol... my little brother is almost 11 yeaes younger than me. When the kids were home, we also ate at the table. Now its just Bill and I, we eat all our meals in the booth. In our 5th wheel, we used tv trays because we took out the dinette to have more space for the dogs. Once we pay this trailer off, we will take out the dinette and build cabinets along the wall, with a flip up shelf for meals with stools that stack together. I really dont want to go back to tv trays, but like you, we dont always eat together at the same time. We try to eat dinner together, but rarely lunch, and even rarer.. breakfast.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how things change over the years - we learn and adapt!
