A great day for riding...

Friday, May 7, 2010

As mentioned in our last blog, we are staying at the Colorado Heights Camping Resort in Monument, CO. It's a very nice member-only park and we are parked way in the back on top of a hill that insulates us from any highway noise.

The first afternoon here we took a ride on the motorcycle and decided to stop and get something to eat. We had a coupon for a local diner, Rosie's. On our way out we spotted several deer at a campsite. If you look REALLY CLOSE you can see them. LOL!

Rosie's turned out to be great, especially with a buy one, get one free coupon. We'll be visiting it often I think.

On Tuesday, which was forecast to be the nicest of the week, we headed out on the bike to do some sightseeing. We had thought about heading up towards Pikes Peak and visiting Woodland Park and maybe even on to Cripple Creek. But the high winds and cooler temps changed out mind. So, we stopped at the Harley dealer and then headed to Garden of the Gods.

At one drive-through viewing/parking area we saw three kids on Segways. Interesting...but not sure how well they were going to work in the dirt trails. One of the kids was taking our picture as I snapped theirs. LOL!

Garden of the Gods is free thanks to the wishes of Charles Elliott Perkins, whose children donated the land to the city of Colorado Springs in 1909. It offers something for everyone and has a great visitors center & trading post (where we stopped for a beer). No matter how many times you visit, you will see something different.

So, what more can you ask for...clear skies, warm weather, beautiful scenery and all experienced on a motorcycle!

Till next time - keep on rollin',
Donna & Stu

  1. Every part of that sounded great -- all except for the motorcycle part! That's not for us old fogeys. Now, I'd really have liked to try one of the Segways! They have intrigued me since the day I first saw one. You guys, go ahead and enjoy your 'cycles, we'll stick to at least 4 wheels at a time.

  5. Isn't amazing how much closer you feel to the area you are visiting when on your bike? It is just not the same from a car or truck. The cycle is almost like you are walking thru the attraction only at a faster pace.

  6. I spent my elementary school years near there - at the Air Force Academy. We went to Garden of the Gods often; Dad took us on picnics every weekend all over the Front Range from Castle Rock to Farish Memorial to the back side of Cheyenne Mountain. Nice pictures!

  7. Donna, if you get up to Woodland Park stop and say Hi. We are at Diamond Campground for the summer (Hwy 67 towards Deckers on left). Weather has not been great, so far....

  8. It appears we'll be a couple of weeks behind you at Monument since Denny and I will be arriving on May 17. It would have been fun to meet the two of you there at the Colorado Heights Resort. Perhaps down the road....
