We all know about the current state of mortgages, bank closures and foreclosures. But who knew that you could have good credit, the money for a down payment and still not get financed because you want to borrow too little an amount.

Weather not whether....
It's not whether we ride or not, it's what the weather will be. Many have advised us that Sept/Oct is the best time to ride Route 66 and ride it West to East. Better weather is the reason....spring in the Rockies can be very unpredictable (as we found out mid-May this past year). But May/June is the second best time and to hopefully avoid the coldest weather we will watch it closely before finally hitting the road.
That said, we know we may hit some cold mornings and someone suggested a portable propane heater for those cold mornings and evenings. While doing some searching I think I may have found the perfect one. Not inexpensive but the size is right and the reviews are good. What do you think?
A little more investigation and I found another model, a little cheaper.
Looks like some good alternatives out there!

Status update for October 2010

Not much new to report. We've been busy with doctor appointments, meeting up with family and friends and adopting a new little (for now) puppy. We have ended up having to stay in Maryland longer than anticipated while Stu gets some injections to help delay getting surgery on his knee.
Current plans call for getting to TN the first week of November. We still want to get the land surveyed and will be visiting the shed builder we mentioned in the September update. I don't suspect we will get much else done while there, other than visiting friends and hopefully, riding.
We are finally, after delaying two years, attending the Log and Timber Home Show in Chantilly, VA on the 22nd-24th. It will give us a good opportunity to meet up with a lot of log home vendors as well as attending a day long seminar on building your own log home. Should be interesting.
We'll take some new photos of our land when we get there and will post a November update as things move along.
