Moving south towards Yellowstone...

Our trip from the Old West RV Park campground in Reed Point, MT to the Howlin' Mad Moon Campground just south of Cameron, MT was uneventful but a great drive. We left my RV at Pierce RV in Billings and made a quick stop at the Harley-Davidson shop before leaving town. (You never know what you might find....LOL). Snapped this shot while there as well as this one of a local barn (we both love old buildings).

The drive flattened out a bit then the mountains started to come into view. As they got closer we started to really enjoy the views....rolling hills punctuated by sharp rocks thrust up through the ground and bordered by fast moving waters.

I never did take any photos of the campground, bad me, but it was a few miles south of Cameron. When we passed through Ennis, we liked what we saw and planned to stop there on our route from Cameron back to Butte/Anaconda area in a couple of days. We mistakenly assumed that Cameron would be of equal size or larger. Ummm, I don't even remember passing through Cameron. LOL!

The Howlin' Mad Moon Campground is about 34 miles north of West Yellowstone. It has RV sites as well as cabins, tent sites, storage area and a little bar/restaurant. The bar/restaurant is only open a few days a week (typically over the weekend). We tried it the second night there...nice atmosphere, good reasonable food and I had my first Moose Drool beer...and am now hooked. I'm not a beer drinker but I really like this one! LOL!

Next blog will be mostly photos covering our two days in Yellowstone. We took over 400 photos so needless to say, it will be tough to choose just a few to upload. Wish me luck!

Till next time - keep on rollin',

New Grandbaby
Aug 7, 2008

Today, heather (my oldest) had her second daughter. Born at 4;45 Am, Jesse May Edwards blessed the world with her "OH so quick" appearance. She decide to have a very private entrance at Easton Memorial Hospital, leaving her poor mother with absolutely no time to call anyone. Obviously she will be a determined young lady with a mind of her own. I couldn't ask for more. Heather and Jesse are doing fine. I had the privilege of bringing "Big Sister" to visit. Olivia held , kissed, rub and hugged her new sister. She also promised to help Mom as best she could and show Jesse all the tricks she has learned. Can't wait. Heather, I am very proud of you as a daughter and a Mother. You deserve everything you get.

Stu (Dad)

Gillette WY to Reed Point MT

When you last left our heroine, she was at the Escapade in Gillette, WY and was having TOO MUCH FUN riding around on the back of a gorgeous Harley-Davidson trike, driven but a very handsome gentleman. story continues....

Well, after much discussion about itineraries Stu and I decided to head to Reed Point, MT. There was a Passport America campground there and it was close to Billings where I needed to get some service work done but also close to Stu's next stop which was Yellowstone.

The drive there was breathtaking....starting out with rolling hills covered in wildflowers and then on to mountain vistas you dream about and then back to softer hills with even more wildflowers. All the photos were snapped through my windshield while driving so forgive the quality.

Reed Point, MT is one of those little beside the highway towns that is interesting as well as fun. We enjoyed out time there, relaxing and enjoying a visit to a local watering hole. You know it's country when you ask for a white wine spritzer and get told, "We got pink sh!t in a box and white sh!t in a box." LOL!! Here are a few pics of the town including the inside of the bar we visited (and enjoyed).

And here are a few pics of the Old West RV Park campground & our rigs (mine looks miniature next to Stu's). We really enjoyed the little park, the owners were fabulous and helped us out with logistics with a late stay. We plan to visit them again.

While taking a break at the park and waiting for my service appointment to arrive, we discussed the trip to Yellowstone. Stu got the bright idea that I should just leave me rig a couple of extra days (store at the RV place) and we'd go together in his rig. Sounded like a plan to me...

So the morning of my appointment Stu followed me on his trike to the dealer in Billings, MT and we came back, picked up his rig and headed south towards Yellowstone.

Stay tuned, more story to come...
