Back among the connected....

Thursday, August 4, 2011

Phew, living without cell or Internet in these "connected" days is tough...not while you're there but when you get back to the connected world. So much to do, so much to read, so much to write...LOL!

So, once again you'll get a synopsis of our time in Rhode Island. Our campground was right on the Connecticut and Rhode Island border which meant we could visit Harley shops in three states....and we did! Stu got his CT, MA & RI t-shirts. I had to pick up one from Exeter, RI since I graduated from Exeter, NH high school. We both picked up a shirt in West Bridgewater, MA since they offered one with a graphic of all 6 of the New England states on it. An added bonus was finding a town with lots of "frog" history in Willimantic, CT, where we had a great lunch at Cafemantic (the third spot we tried).

Some of you may know that in 2005, a year after my husband died, I spent the summer taking multiple motorcycle trips to tour the US. My goal was to ride through all 48 states. Weather eventually intervened and I had to skip the 6 New England states. Now I have ridden them all.

Interesting side note, I started the trips from my home in Tennessee....which will be our future home. I ended the states in Massachusetts.....which is where I was born and lived for 16 years.

Okay...so while in Rhode Island we did ride all three states. Only spent one day in MA where we visited my elderly aunt. She took us on a car tour of the small town I grew up in, Duxbury. Stu got to see where I lived, played and went to school. It's still a beautiful and very historic town....but I wouldn't want to live there.

We hit four Harley shops (and three of them invited Sadie in...she wasn't with us for the 4th one), one micro-brew, rode a lot of really nice back roads, had ice cream several times at the "Next to Nowhere" ice cream shop (next to "Middle of Nowhere Diner") and went to see "Cowboys and Aliens" (a fun adventure movie with great characters).

The campground, Ginny-B Campground in Foster RI, was really nice, once again a huge site with a nice view, paved roads for great bicycle riding and friendly neighbors. Our last day there as we were coming back from the movies, the sky showed us some amazing clouds. They looked painted...we only had Stu's phone for pictures but it does show it a bit. Later on they presented us with an awesome red night sky.

We are now driveway camping at my step-daughters house in Highland, NY. We do have a 30 amp hookup which they just put in, not just for us though. They recently bought a great travel trailer and will be heading to Colorado and Utah this weekend. We will leave on Saturday, heading to Delware where we once again will be driveway camping at Stu's oldest daughter's house. After a week there, we'll move to our usual driveway camping at Stu's stepdaughter's house in Maryland....with full hookups.

Our days for the next two months are packed with family visits as well as annual medical, dental appointments. We also will be doing the 9-11 10th Anniversary Memorial ride in two weeks. So blogs may be sporadic....LOL!

Till next time - keep on rollin',
Donna and Stu
