Camping.....

Friday, December 16, 2011

As you all know, we don't "camp"....we RV....in a trailer....not in a camping tent.  There is no way we can really consider ourselves campers. Not with a 41' toy hauler fifth wheel that is towed by a Freightliner and has a queen bed, washer/dryer, electric fireplace, two good sized TVs, dishwasher, kitchen peninsula, ceiling fan and 10' garage (or man cave as Stu calls it).

Many RVers started out as campers in their younger years. I know Stu did and worked his way up to a pop-up, then a bumper pull trailer and on to fifth wheels. Me? I remember tent camping in the backyard as a kid...with the neighbor kids. Other than that, my first camping trip was around age 40. It rained the entire weekend...until we packed up to go home. Of course since we had a power outlet, I could use my little portable TV and electric fan. There are those that would say that wasn't camping either. LOL!

We still plan to ride all of Route 66 on our motorcycles but the trip is now delayed until 2013. We have all our camping gear, including our tent for camping....big enough for both of us, our gear and a spot for Sadie. We keep saying we need to test it out and maybe next summer while we are in TN we will finally give it a try. We really have a lot of gear to test, too. LOL!

So, wondering how many readers have actually camped in a tent....or even still do from time to time? Hmmm....

What a trip....Las Vegas

Well, we made it back from Las Vegas...a little late, a lot tired and while not richer, we did break even! I'm not a gambler and Stu spends maybe $20 a day. He had thrown $5 in a Wheel of Fortune machine, was on his third pull ($1) when THIS popped up.

Needless to say, he quit while he was ahead...and we ended up covering the entire vacation!

We stayed at Planet Hollywood and enjoyed ourselves. While not sumptuous, the room was large and comfortable. We had two queen beds, a big screen TV and both a large soaking tub and a good sized shower. The only things lacking were a microwave and mini-frig...guess they want you out of the room and spending money. Restaurants were probably one of our biggest expenses.

Lots more to post but need to download photos first. Will add another update either later tonight or tomorrow. Just wanted to let everyone know that we made it home okay.

Two weeks? No way....LOL!

Saturday, December 10, 2011

Yup, it's been two weeks since the last blog. I hope there are still a few out there reading, just been busy. We did make it down from TN to FL with a stop in GA to have dinner with my youngest daughter and her family. Always good to get in some unexpected family time.

When we arrived, the site the park had selected for us wasn't optimal but a good one was opening up the following day. We parked in their overflow area where we had power and water...and great satellite reception. The next morning we moved into our current spot and got settled.

We had a couple of days to get organized and then Stu took off for his PADI scuba certification class. He has promised to write a blog about it so I won't steal his thunder...

Other than that it's been chores, rest/relax, more chores...etc, etc, etc. Today we are taking Sadie to Preppy Pets for doggy camp while we head to Las Vegas for a few days. We had to use up some reward points...they got us two tickets to Vegas. Then we found a great special at Planet Hollywood....a 500 sf suite for under $50 a night (except a bit higher on Sunday). Then we booked two half price shows in advance. Sunday night we'll do whatever, Monday night is the first show, Tuesday night we plan to do Fremont St and Wednesday night is the other show. Then we head back on Thursday. A short trip but a nice break...well, other than the weather running 20 degrees colder than here in Florida. LOL!

Not even taking a camera....if something turns up we'll snap pics on our phones. We both have HTC Incredibles now...Stu has the original (ebay-used) and I have the 2 (Verizon-new). Both our phones died....I liked into an early upgrade and we then found a good deal on the used phone for Stu.

So nothing much to write about...up to Stu to talk about his new trike and his scuba class. LOL!

Back in a week or so...
