Family, Friends and Fire Lily Base Camp

Some people don't understand the RV lifestyle and wonder how we can give up our homes and leave our family and friends. The truth is, many of us have family spread out all over the country, especially those of us with extended/blended families.

Take Stu and I....not a first marriage for either of us, our late spouses also had children of their own before we married them. We now have over twenty-five grandkids (and one great) scattered throughout Maryland, Ohio, Georgia, New York, Delaware and more family in Florida. Our RV lifestyle lets us see them much more often than we could otherwise. Plus we have the added bonus of having our own bed and a place to retreat to at the end of a long day.

We've had pizza parties, attended graduations, enjoyed Thanksgiving, done some motorcycling, danced at weddings, cried at funerals, partied at Halloween, ate food (LOTS of food).

Do you have a set schedule to visit family and friends? Have you found it easy to make friends on the road?

  1. We also have family and friends all over the country. We just need to get rolling again at some point and go see them! :) Some friends stop by to stay a night or two with us, and that's a blessing. It's tougher for us to make on-the-road friends as we are static working right now with no RVers around us, but that's okay. Hooray for my blog extended family! :)

  2. While Michael loves my family, he enjoys having his own space when we visit for long stretches of time in Arkansas. One of the little great nieces loves going out and spending time with Uncle Michael in the motorhome (I really think she enjoys spending time with Emmi!).

  4. I hadn't been to my Dad's in a long time. It was great to be able to park in his driveway for three nights, sleep in as late as we wanted, then go into the house for lunch, dinner, and visiting.

  5. Sweet lifestyle! The hubby and I used to talk about doing this once the girls were grown. Now, he wants to buy a boat and sail the world. Oh gosh. I had boats, yikes. I could do a day, but that's my limit and I have to see shoreline. O_O

    Fellow IWSG peep here. :)

    1. Thanks for stopping in...my ex wanted to do the boat thing. I might have been able to do a houseboat (one that never went away from shore) but not the sailboat he wanted. LOL!
