Yes [he's home] and Yes [I'm late telling you]

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Sorry I haven't posted to let you know that Stu did make it home on Friday, it's been a bit of a whirlwind ever since. Things have been going well most of the time. Our trip home was uneventful, but Sadie sure was happy to see her daddy (and Yes, she blogged about it).

Stu is doing his PT faithfully every day, adapting what we have handy to take the place of items used in the rehab center (more on that later in the write-up he is still working on). In addition, we are taking 2-3 walks every day - thank goodness for decent weather.

Turns out he overdid a little on Saturday (FREEDOM) and spent more time in the "toes above the nose" position with ice on his knees. Sunday was better.

Today was his evaluation by the Physical Therapist, she was impressed with his progress but really put him through his paces. He will got three times a week for 45-60 minutes each session. On the off days he will do all the exercises he was already doing (from the rehab center) plus another half dozen she added.

So our time in the next month will be spent doing lots of exercising (hoping we both lose a few pounds in the process) and working towards getting Stu approved for driving (which means both the truck and motorcycle). Right now the only things holding him back are the Coumadin and pain killers. Once he is off both of those, he will be okay to drive. Needless to say, he can't wait!

Not much else new with me, still busy writing flash fiction on my writing blog. Hope some of you are enjoying it as much as I am enjoying writing it. I still have a couple of doctor appointments left and need to get a few maintenance things done to Scooby (our pickup). At least taxes are done! ;-)

Till next time - keep on rollin',
Donna and Stu

  2. Hi Donna and Stu. So glad to know you are home and doing well Stu. You really have a lot of flex in your knees, that is great! One little tip. When you are walking make your stride a little longer and make sure you walk from heel to toe. It will help with your recovery and your knees and your gait will thank you.

  3. Right, focus on Stu; we'll wait.

Heel slides; I recognize those. :) Be aware that siting in the recliner is helping keep his knees bent which makes the straightening exercises even more important. Voice of experience here.

I'm very much enjoying your A-Z writing challenge. It amazes me!

  6. So glad Stu is home and doing so well. I bet Sadie was so excited to see him. Our little furbabies are just as attached to us as we are to them. Glad they are together again.

  14. I helped my mother go through knee replacement about one year ago. She is better than ever now, and glad she went through the process. For her, too, the physical therapy was key, especially because she also suffers from MS. Good luck to you both and better days ahead.
