Earthquakes and Hurricanes....

Friday, August 26, 2011

Yeah, I know...another blog delaying tactic. LOL! For those that have emailed, yes, we did feel the earthquake. We were at a mall movie theater, second floor, top row seating, watching the new Planet of the Apes movie (very good, by the way) when it hit.

This was not our first earthquake...we had one while boondocking in Borrego Springs, CA. I also had one in Bozeman, MT back in 2005 while touring on my motorcycle. But we felt this one much more...and they did evacuate the movie theater while they checked for any damage. Phew!! (Yes, we did get to see the rest of the movie).

Now it's hurricane time. We are currently parked in our step-daughter's yard in Stevensville, MD - about two blocks from the bay. We have watched the weather closely and have decided to move more inland to a friend's yard in Warfordsburg, PA. Although there hasn't been flooding here before, we are also concerned about days of power outages. We really don't want to run our propane generator for days on end...and not be able to travel local roads.

So today is moving day...we will leave BRAT & the Brat Rack stored here, my bike is at the Annapolis Harley-Davidson dealer for service (dropped it off yesterday for the Monday appt), and we're de-oozing and getting ready to hit the road in another 2 hours or so.

No idea what Verizon service will be like, will post if it's good...won't if it's not. LOL! To all our family & friends in the path of Irene....please be safe!!! This one doesn't look good...

Till next time - keep on rollin',
Donna and Stu

  1. Glad to hear you are moving inland, Donna. Just too much low lying land around there and too much water. Stay safe.

  3. Bet for a second you thought the earthquake was a 3D experience added to the movie??!! just kidding! Wise choice to move and we hope you will be safe. 50-50% chance Irene will turn outward....I have a daughter who works in D.C. and experienced the earthquake as well. We're watching very closely....take care....

  7. We moved inland once because of an approaching hurricane. It didn't hit our park but I certainly slept better knowing we were in a safer place. I'll sleep better knowing you are in a safer place as well. Thanks for moving.

  8. Donna, don't leave your bike behind! Gasp......... Well perhaps just for this time you could ride on the back of big red, or be brave and tell Stu that you gotta drive and he can ride on the back.... That probably won't fly either... Glad you are heading to safety....

  12. Thank goodness for wheels to move us when necessary. We high-tailed it to Florida from VA (after the earthquake 70 miles from us), once we felt that Florida was going to miss Irene. It is pouring down rain today though. Hope you and your family and friends stay safe through Irene.
